Orchids are a fascinating and beautiful plant that blooms in abundance in tropical and subtropical countries. Their popularity has reached the point where you can get them almost anywhere. Growing Orchids in the United States is easy. Most Orchids grow well in a well drained potting mix. The soil should not be too dry or too wet. The ideal conditions are a balance between moisture and dryness. Once you have established your Orchid in a pot, you can then keep it there and potting it in a substrate that you purchase at your local nursery will provide the perfect growing conditions. You should also remember to water the Orchid regularly.

Orchids grow best in a room that is cool to moderate temperature. Orchids can be grown in tropical locations, but it is best if you keep them in a well ventilated, room with a little bit of light. Orchids also need the sun to survive and thrive. They do need at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. Do not let the sun get in their pots or containers, this will cause your Orchids to grow poorly.

Some of the more common problems that occur with Orchids is root rot. In this condition the roots will start to decay. If you notice that the roots of your Orchids are turning brown, this is also called Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. In this case the only way to fix it is to take the plant to a plant specialist for an examination.

A great way to protect your Orchid is with a casing. These are made out of a fiberglass material, usually plastic, and are placed around the plant to keep it from drying out. The casing can be made of a variety of materials. You will usually find it is an outer covering of paper or wood.
